“[Fighting On] is a message that I have to always embody the USC spirit of victory,” says alumnus Harjot Takkar.
For Harjot Takkar, entrepreneurship isn’t just a career — it’s a personal calling. A 1993 graduate of the USC Marshall School of Business, Harjot has spent the past three decades transforming his family’s textile legacy into a modern, mission-driven enterprise that blends business innovation with social impact.
Sustaining a Family Legacy
Harjot grew up in India immersed in his family’s women’s wear business, which he ultimately vertically integrated to span fabric processing, embroidery, wholesale and omnichannel retail. After graduating magna cum laude from USC with an undergraduate degree in business administration and an emphasis in entrepreneurship, he returned home and immediately began working to expand and modernize the business.
Within his first decade, he completed five major projects that helped the company evolve into a fully integrated operation. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he also ensured company security and stability by establishing the Takkar Family Office, which effectively manages their investments.
Supporting All Communities
Today, Harjot serves as the managing director of Sahib Textiles Pvt Ltd and leads multiple companies under the family umbrella, including fashion retailer Tacfab Fashions Pvt Ltd and garment manufacturer Sahibtek Pvt Ltd. His portfolio features four dynamic fashion brands that cater to Indian women across demographics, including Naariti, Tacfab, Contemponari and Label Naariti.
“[We] cater to women of all ages … offering a range from Indian ethnic wear to modern western. This allows [us] to beautifully decorate the wardrobes of all women in a family,” he said.
But Harjot’s leadership extends beyond business. A firm believer in purpose-driven entrepreneurship, he is deeply involved in philanthropy through two family-run charitable trusts. The Mata Jai Kaur Charitable Trust operates two prestigious schools in North Delhi, while the Bhai Sahib Ditta Mal and Sons Charitable Trust manages a spiritual center and medical facility in Haridwar. He is a proud trustee of both.
Trojan Forever
An active community-builder, Harjot is the founding member and president of the USC Alumni Club of India, where he’s worked tirelessly to grow USC’s presence across the country. For his leadership and commitment to the Trojan Family, he was recently awarded the USC President’s Award at a ceremony in Los Angeles.
Harjot credits much of his success to the transformative experience he had at USC, specifically its entrepreneurship program. He still remembers winning the Best Business Plan award during his senior year and spending countless late nights refining ideas and pitching strategies.
“When I introduce myself to someone saying, ‘I am an entrepreneur,’ it is not merely an introduction. To me, it is my soul,” he reflected.
He also credits courses in business law and anthropology for shaping his worldview and sharpening his critical thinking.
From fraternity leadership roles at Delta Sigma Phi to raising $11,500 from a USC-themed T-shirt fundraiser, Harjot deep dived into every aspect of Trojan life. Today, whether designing fashion lines, leading philanthropic efforts or waving the Fight On sign at alumni events in India, Harjot continues to reflect the global and innovative spirit of USC.
“To me, it is a message that I have to always embody the USC spirit of Victory and Fighting On,” he said.
